Survey analysts design surveys and may also conduct them. They may also act as supervisors to people actually involved in collecting data, for instance, by conducting interviews. They gather survey results and put them in a form which can be easily interpreted by their clients. Survey analysts may be known by many other names such as research associates, research fellows, consultants and field interviewers. A survey analyst career is a sub-field of a wider discipline known as ‘Management Analysis’.

Job Description

A survey analyst career may lead to a job with varying responsibilities. Some of the tasks entrusted to survey analysts include:

·  Gathering information from clients, consumers and other survey respondents;
·  Designing surveys that improve customer satisfaction;
·  Collecting public opinions that help in measuring market response to a product or even  political support; and
·  Designing questionnaires, interviews and other tools of data collection.
Educational Requirements

A number of degrees can lead to a survey analyst career. These degrees may include:

·  Management
·  Business
·  Commerce
·  Organizational Leadership

A bachelor’s degree usually suffices but some posts may require a master’s degree. Students should also take courses in statistics, data analysis and research methodologies in order to build a successful survey analyst career. Courses that focus on communication and report writing may be an additional asset.
Skills Required for a Survey Analyst Career
Beyond education, certain skills are crucial for a survey analyst career. A survey analyst should have an investigative and innovative bent of mind. Such individuals should also have excellent skills to solve complex problems. Survey analysts are usually also excellent at using reasoning and logic to judge the strength or weakness of an inferred survey conclusion.
Survey analysts should also have good reading comprehension skills so that they can understand their client demands perfectly. Communication skills are critical because they need to communicate their ideas and survey results to their clients in a clear and concise manner. Computer skills are also necessary in this field since these skills facilitate survey analysts in interpreting survey results and also in displaying survey findings in an easy to understand format.
