A quality assurance (QA) analyst will pinpoint specific defects and issues with the quality inspection data any department or company may have collected.  Their analysis provides crucial information about the problem and where it lays which makes rectifying the problem easier for the technical teams.
Quality assurance analysts also make recommendations regarding employee quality improvement. They develop performance enhancing strategies and suggest ways of reducing redundancy and improving the production process.  Analysts also make sure that their efforts are bearing results. They monitor and document the procedures being used to rectify problem areas, as well as measure the effectiveness of the solutions proposed by them.

Skills

Among the most important skills needed for a software quality assurance analyst career is having an eye for detail. An analyst must be fully familiar with the principles of quality assurance, inspection techniques and testing procedures. It is also important that they have good communication skills since writing and reporting QA issues is a major part of their job. This is also particularly useful when software quality assurance analysts have to give presentations on data analysis.

Qualifications

To become a quality assurance analyst, students are required to have a bachelor’s degree in this field. Students are taught all the major quality assurance techniques and encouraged to get as much practical experience in the field through internships as possible. A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Software Development is also acceptable when enrolling for a graduate degree program in QA Analysis. Students interested in this field should aim at developing analytical and problem solving skills by taking various courses, even as early as their high school. These courses may include Accounting, Statistics, Computer Science, Technical Writing and Physics.

QA analysts hone their skills not just by courses and degrees; they learn the tricks of their trade through extensive and daily interactions with quality assurance managers, computer programmers and technical writers in their workplaces. They develop comprehensive strategies and test plans for quality assurance under the guidance of supervisors and programmers while technical writers assist QA analysts with writing and presenting their test results and other important data. Professionals may choose to become Certified Software Quality Engineers through the American Society for Quality which increases their worth in the job market.
