Charleston, SC (August 28, 2007) - Higher enrollments across the board: that's what Charleston Southern University's Evening College is witnessing as the new fall semester approaches.
"Our fall enrollment in this program alone is up 100 percent," beams Dr. Stan Parker, Dean of CSU's Evening College, "including both the traditional degree programs and our popular, online Bachelor of Management Arts." The Evening College at Charleston Southern was originally designed to meet the needs of adult students; however, as distance education developed into a prominent educational resource, CSU's Evening College looked to expand its offerings.
The most successful of these online programs is the online Bachelor of Management Arts degree. In fact, Parker attributes part of the College's record growth to the online BMA program, which has done considerably well since its inception. With its benefits of "convenience and fast-track pace," Parker offers that the business management program "allows many students to complete their four-year degree in as little as 20 months." Combine this factor with the new enrollment numbers and one can see that the online program in Management Arts is truly meeting the needs of its adult student population.
"This is not just another degree completion program; this is a true learning experience," remarks Rhonda Shrum, student and enrollment specialist for the Evening College. Students have the chance to fit the online bachelor program to their needs. Having worked closely with the online BMA students, Shrum highlights how part of the program's success lies in "the course design and the faculty who facilitate the learning." First and foremost, "students can take general education and elective courses in a variety of ways to get the total hours needed for their bachelor's degree," explains Parker. While convenience is important, Parker wants to emphasize the online program's other highlights, including technological advances. "For example, the textbook is internalized within the online BMA courses," describes Parker, "adding a level of value since the student does not have to pay additionally for expensive texts."
Charleston Southern University is an independent comprehensive university offering degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The University promotes academic excellence in a Christian environment. It has a strategic goal, through the Evening College, to offer academic programs like the Bachelor of Management Arts designed primarily to meet the educational needs of working adults at on-campus and off-campus sites using both traditional and online/distance instructional delivery systems.
