Professional Profile
The field of criminal justice blankets over all matters relating to crime. It focuses on law, criminology, police, courts, corrections, crime control policy and planning. The profession is constantly evolving with every change in society and its drivers of progress, which include politics, economics, technology, etc. Modern criminal behavior such as computer theft and embezzlement, terrorism, racketeering and sophisticated political corruption require new technologies and skills for crime control.
There is an increasing need for qualified professionals and modern police methods and skills, from accounting to computer skills and counseling. The Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice offered entirely online at Highland Community College is a comprehensive program that provides an overview of the criminal justice system as well as the development of essential skills needed in the field.
Career Opportunities
HCC graduates will benefit from a wide range of employment opportunities with the police, the courts and correctional programs. The knowledge and skills conferred by our online program will build a solid foundation for those who decide to seek a four-year bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, sociology or political science.
The two-year associate degree program is designed primarily to provide professionals active in the field of criminal justice and other law enforcement agencies an opportunity to increase their knowledge base in criminal justice studies while simultaneously earning a college degree in the field. HCC's criminal justice online program seeks to provide students with a broad understanding of the entire criminal justice system and human behavior instead of a narrow specialization.
