Non-Master's Alternate Certification Program

Program Description:

The Non-Master's Alternate Certification Program is designed for working adults who hold a bachelor's degree or higher in any area and wish to obtain their teaching license.

Benefits: This program allows future teachers to pursue certification within the parameters of their personal and professional life and obtain the same quality education as that gained through a face-to-face program. Adult students enrolled in the Non-Master's Alternate Certification courses will have the opportunity to develop their teaching skills through a thorough, fast-track curriculum.

Quality and Convenience: The online teacher certification program at Louisiana College offers the same quality education as a traditional certification program, as it is comprised of the same courses pursued by traditional undergraduate on-campus students. Students can select courses that fit into their schedules and lifestyles.

Growth potential: This certification path is made up of a well-planned sequence of classes that begins with foundational courses and progresses through a clinical internship. The newly certified teachers will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to implement effective teaching methods in various classroom environments.

Job opportunities: In the state of Louisiana, the shortage of qualified and licensed teachers increases each year. Many professionals passionate about teaching are actively working in the field under a temporary license. Thus, a candidate can teach on a temporary license while pursuing the Non-Master's Alternate Certification courses online.

Program Description: A non-master's certification program fulfills all of the requirements of, and provides the same rigor as, other certification routes. Candidates are assessed and evaluated using the same criteria as that used for the traditional teacher education program.

For over 10 years, Louisiana College has prepared students from all major fields for the changing world through a liberal arts tradition, a commitment to academic excellence and devotion to the Christian faith.  In addition, the Teacher Education Department promotes a uniquely academic environment that reinforces life-long learning and personal growth.

Requirements: The candidates must possess a bachelor's degree, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and pass PRAXIS exams.

Candidates do not have to teach on a temporary license while in the program.
