Midway College Online

The homeland security field has been one of the fast growing markets in recent years.  With the increased need for well-trained security professionals, government and homeland security officials have called for the creation of new education and degree programs to meet the rising demand. Distance learning, an educational outlet that has seen extraordinary success in recent years, has taken on this challenge with much enthusiasm.

Midway College, Kentucky's leader in accelerated degree programs for working adults, recently answered this call with the launch of new, online courses in homeland security.  Accepting enrollments for the Spring of 2008, Midway College has designed this program to appeal to those professionals seeking management positions in the homeland security field. Shifting away from a focus on law-enforcement, Midway College's online homeland security degree program is geared toward managerial-focused individuals who wish to work with compliance of local, state, and federal regulations, and community members in matters of safety.

While enrolled in the program, students will examine the homeland security process, which is made up of complimentary procedures that penetrate the local, state, and national levels. By understanding each element of this process, online students at Midway College gain a comprehensive education in security-related topics, such as risk management, leadership skills, crisis procedures, and proper methods of security control. Upon degree completion, graduates of the homeland security program should be trained to complete such tasks as implementation of corporate cyber-security protocols, performance of personnel screenings, establishment of security procedures for employees of a company or organization, and management of communication between corporations and law enforcement or government officials.

This unique program specifically targets non-traditional, adult learners who are returning to school to complete a previously initiated degree. In order to qualify for Midway's homeland security program, students must have previously completed 40-60 hours of college credit before classes begin. Midway's online courses in homeland security are part of its Bachelor of Arts program in Homeland Security Corporate Management and Assessment.

The requirements to enter into the homeland security program at Midway College include:

  • Completion of between 40 and 60 credit hours of college work
  • A minimum GPA of 2.50
  • A minimum age of 23 years old
  • Acceptance into the program by the Program Admissions Committee
