
Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (degree completion)
The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice online degree is offered by the Sociology/Criminal Justice Department for nontraditional students who desire preparation for work in the field of criminal justice and related areas. The program has a holistic approach with an emphasis on problem solving and communication skills.
The Sociology/Criminal Justice Department upholds the mission of the college as a private, church-related, liberal arts institution by providing a quality education in sociology and criminal justice for students seeking employment in the helping professions, the criminal justice system, research, education, or other fields.
A Midland Criminal Justice Major:
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of the nature, origins and impact of criminal behavior in American society
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the American criminal justice system, including its origins, history, roles, operations, consequences, and the values and principles upon which it is based
- Demonstrates an appreciation of the value of and ability to apply a holistic, liberal arts approach to gaining knowledge of and understanding the role of the criminal justice system and alternatives to it in addressing social problems
- Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity and the recognition of the dignity of all people;
- Demonstrates preparation to be a competitive candidate for entry level openings in the field of criminal justice and related careers
- Demonstrates the ability to succeed in professional work roles in criminal justice agencies;
- Demonstrates the ability to be a competitive candidate for admission to quality graduate programs or professional schools
Requirements:
- Students should have completed 30 credit hours of college coursework including English Composition and Principles of Sociology
Additional Information:
- A student may receive credit for life/work experience
- A maximum of 64 credit (semester) hours may be transferred from 2-year colleges.
- A maximum of 105 credit (semester) hours can be transferred from a 4-year institution.
- Students must earn 32 of the last 40 hours from Midland Lutheran College.
** Students transferring 64 credit hours can complete this degree in 21 months or less.
