Registered nurses looking for online colleges in Texas this fall may be able to enroll in the new doctoral program in nursing available at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), according to San Antonio Express News.
Laura Munoz, the program’s director, told the media outlet that students in the one-year program will be provided with a great deal of flexibility. For example, online classes coupled with clinical placements were created to give students the ability to study while they devote their time to a job and family. Students who are unable to complete the full-time program may study part-time instead, and learn at their own pace.
The news source reports that UIW requires that applicants be currently registered nurses, possess advanced certification in a specialty field and hold a master’s degree in nursing.
In the United States, nurses account for as many as 2.6 million jobs, according to the Sloan Career Cornerstone Center. Registered nurses who achieve a doctoral degree in the field can become advanced practice nurses qualified to take positions as primary care service providers.
