An associate degree is an academic degree typically awarded by community colleges, junior colleges and some bachelor's degree-granting colleges and universities upon completion of 60 undergraduate credits.
Associate degrees with emphasis on a specific career field are considered entry-level professional degrees, while general education degrees are great starting-points for those interested in continuing their education with a bachelors degree or beyond.
Because most full-time students can obtain an Associate's degree in about two years, the degree is sometimes referred to as a "two-year degree." You may also here the associate degree called a "technical degree" in reference to some of the most common specializations (like paralegal, nursing, or information technology).
