Through online collaborative efforts, the university responds to the needs of all its constituents and offers educational programs and service projects to improve the quality of life in Southwest Georgia.

Due to the high standards placed on curriculum development, Albany State University has been recognized nationally for its quality based programming. In 2007, ASU was ranked 26th in U.S. News & World Report's list of America's Best HBCUs. Within the University System of Georgia, ASU boasts the 4th highest retention rate among the 35 member institutions.

ASU recognizes that its diverse student body includes an increasing number of nontraditional students who regularly commute to campus. The school remains committed to accommodating these students' scheduling needs and believes the online environment offers another route to assist this population.

ASU also understands the value and added benefits of a small instructor-to-student ratio. ASU averages a ratio of 19:1, student to faculty. ASU has developed a virtual academic environment in which students are able to connect with their instructors, as well as institutional service areas within minutes. Online students are able to access academic and financial aid counseling, as well as technical support via the Web, one-on-one phone sessions and other modes of communication. Financial Aid

Cognizant of the increasing cost of higher education, ASU offers access to financial aid resources to its online students. The application process is also easily accessible to online students. Questions will be answered as expeditiously as possible. Fast Online Degree Completion

Albany State University online is committed to providing quality programming to students on a global scale. This goal can successfully be achieved through online degree completion, which provides ASU students with convenience, engaging interaction with cohorts from diverse backgrounds, the chance to work independently as well as within groups, and the potential to accelerate degree completion. Distance learning has become a critical component of the higher learning experience. The National Center for Education Statistics notes that the trend of virtual or online campuses is expected to continue to grow at a phenomenal rate. A few of the many reasons Albany State University offers online programming include convenience, extension of unique programming and outreach to areas with educational needs. ASU is currently offering degrees in the areas of criminal justice and business information systems and plans to offer a degree in the area of nursing in the near future.

Although ASU resides within the fourth largest city in Georgia, rural communities surround the University. Distance and a very limited mass transit system hinder many potential college students from attending classes through the traditional campus setting. The online campus environment eliminates those barriers and hindrances allowing ASU to expand the educational horizons of those who may otherwise not have the opportunity. Through a virtual world students are encouraged to thrive by sharing of ideas, experiences, and opinions academically while developing individually and collectively with fellow online cohorts.
