
Certification Program in Chemical Dependency
This is a certificate program that provides academic and experiential training intended to prepare persons for chemical dependency certification.
In our society today, the drug crisis has reached epidemic proportions. During a typical weekend an adolescent dies almost every hour in an alcohol related car crash. Every day more and more young people try alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. The Union College Chemical Dependency Program is designed to train people in the skills necessary for assisting chemically dependent persons and to help them free themselves from their dependency.
This program includes courses designed to provide students with knowledge of real world of drug dependency. The curriculum focuses on the development of counseling skills specific to the needs of chemically dependent clientele. It has been approved by the Kentucky Board of Certification of Drug and Alcohol Counselors.
Requirements for admission to the chemical dependency certificate program, the applicant must have the following:
- Application letter to program director
- At least two letters of recommendation
- Successfully completed a personal interview with Psychology Faculty members, to include at least one faculty member from the chemical dependency training program
Important additional considerations are previous work experience, academic background, scholarship, interpersonal skills, and commitment to the field of chemical dependency.
Additional requirements for state certification, will apply according to the most recent regulations of the Kentucky Board of Certification of Drug and Alcohol Counselors.

- Foundations of Chemical Dependency Treatment I
- Foundations of Chemical Dependency Treatment II
- AIDS & Ethical Issues in CD Treatment
- Psychology of Addictions
- Biological Systems of Chemical Dependency
- Recovery and Relapse
- Chemical Dependency Internship
