Master's in Counseling Psychology

The specialization in counseling psychology prepares professional counselors to assume a variety of counseling roles, including community mental health, social service agencies, free-standing treatment centers, hospitals, prisons, and many others. The master's in counseling degree program includes a balance of theory courses and practice courses. Advanced students will have the opportunity to obtain real-world counseling experience in the Campus Counseling Center. All graduate psychology students participate in supervised practica and internships at numerous sites throughout the region.

The master's degree in counseling psychology fulfills the educational requirements necessary to qualify for the Licensed Psychological Associate licensure from the Kentucky State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. The educational requirements for licensure as a psychological practitioner include an additional 15 hours of coursework and an internship of 1800 hours.
